The use of floor scales is common in many different types of applications. These can be used to weigh pallets, barrels or bins, but they are not used for weighing loose materials.
For most applications, the simple design of the floor scale makes it a piece of equipment that has a long life and a very low maintenance requirement. In fact, with careful use of the scales there can be very limited maintenance in most types of applications.
Calibration
With any type of floor scales, just as with other types of industrial scales, calibration is often the most common maintenance requirement. Some of the old styles of scales, even those sold as new models today, still require the use of approved weight for calibration.
A better option and one that is much quicker and easier on staff are to choose models of floor scales offering electronic calibration. This allows a special software program to calibrate the scale as necessary with just the operator selecting the process on a screen.
Washdown
Most industrial types of these scales will have a stainless steel or a painted carbon steel deck or platform. Combined with either with a tread or a smooth surface, these types of scales should be rated to be used in applications where washdown is required.
Even when washdown may not be a regular requirement of the scale in the specific application, it is a good idea to choose a scale that can be cleaned as needed. There can always be spills and leaks in any type of facility, so having the ability to clean the scale completely will be an essential consideration.
Make sure to review the manual that comes with the scales. Additionally, consider training on-site to ensure all staff uses weighing systems within the facility correctly to reduce the risk of damage to any scale.
