When to take your pet to the emergency vet

If your pet is ill or injured, they will need medical care to get well again. However some people make the mistake of waiting to take them in to the regular vet. However this can prove detrimental to the health of your pet. Instead of waiting to take them in, it is more advisable to get them to an emergency vet as soon as possible. Knowing when to take your pet to the emergency vet will ensure that they get the complete care and attention needed to help them recover.

Blood loss

In the event that your pet has become injured and lost a lot of blood, there is no time to waste. Your pet may need a blood transfusion to save their life and only an emergency vet can make this determination. As such, you will want to get your pet to a vet hospital as soon as possible so they can receive the care they need. Although you may be tempted to provide the emergency care at home. it is best to have your pet looked at by a skilled and experienced emergency vet.

Insect Bite

An insect bite is no laughing matter and these small and seemingly harmless creatures can cause major damage. If you suspect your pet has been stung or bitten, you will want to take them to the emergency vet right away. The emergency vet can examine the site and determine whether or not the sting was poisonous. The emergency vet can also evaluate your pet to see whether they may need to be given any medications to interfere with the potency of the bite.

A fever may be a sign of an infection and your pet will need to be attended to at a hospital if the fever gets too high. You may not have the necessary medications to help your pet at home so waiting it out is not advisable. If your pet feels very hot and is listless and lethargic, this may be a sign of a fever. You can get them to the emergency vet to get a medical opinion about their health condition.

When it comes to the health of your pet, it is better to be safe than sorry. Don’t delay a trip to the emergency vet if one is warranted. Instead, get your pet the fast emergency care they need.
